Sadowy's Hat Trick Leads Spirit to 8-4 Victory over Firebirds

SAGINAW, MI. - The Saginaw Spirit welcomed their archrival the Flint Firebirds for a midweek contest at The Dow Event Center. Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy led the way in the Spirit's noteworthy 8-4 victory over the Flint Firebirds. In the sixth of eight meetings between the Spirit and the Firebirds, Saginaw tied the I-75 Divide Coors Light Cup season series 3-3.

The Spirit were keen to take an early advantage over the Firebirds and ignite the Wednesday night crowd via three goals in the opening 6:38 of the game. Matt Kreis started off scoring by giving the Spirit an early one-goal lead at 4:03 of the first period. Flint evened the score 18 seconds later on a goal by Francesco Vilardi. From there, the Spirit bombarded the Firebirds' starting goaltender Brent Moran, by netting three consecutive goals and setting an impressive tone for the rest of the evening. Devon Paliani continued the offensive flurry and regained the Spirit's one-goal lead at 6:19 of the first period. San Jose Sharks prospect Dylan Sadowy cushioned the Spirit's lead 19 seconds later, after picking up a pass from Matt Kreis and pushing the Spirit ahead of the Firebirds by a score of 3-1. Sadowy wrapped up the first period scoring at the 18:55 mark, sending the Spirit to the locker room with a 4-1 lead over the Firebirds. Saginaw dominated play in the first period outshooting Flint, 13-8.

In the second period, the Spirit continued to outshine the Firebirds. Dylan Sadowy kept the scoring efforts rolling, as he netted his third goal of the evening at 9:38 of the middle frame. Artem Artemov and Matt Kreis assisted Sadowy's 17thgoal of the season. At 11:33 Flint's Nicholas Caamano scored to make a slight dent in the Spirit's 5-2 lead. The Spirit extended their lead as Kirill Maksimov netted his third goal of the season at 15:16 of the period, giving the Spirit a comfortable 6-2 lead. Saginaw continued to make headway as Mike Davies lit the lamp to put the Spirit up 7-2 over their Michigan opponent. Flint's Nicholas Caamano snuck in one more goal before the end of the period, making it a 7-3 game in favor of Saginaw.

Saginaw maintained their 7-2 lead over the Firebirds, despite being whistled for four third period penalties. As Saginaw's Chase Stewart sat in the box for interference, Spirit captain Connor Brown fed the puck to Kris Bennett who scored shorthanded to give the Spirit an 8-3 lead. Flint capped off the night's scoring at 16:12 of the third period, on a goal by Will Bitten. The Saginaw Spirit notched an impressive 8-4 win over the Flint Firebirds.The Spirit outshot the Firebirds by total of 34-21.
