Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack saw their mini two-game winning streak snapped when they hosted the Barrie Colts on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
After scoring the first two goals of the game, Owen Sound surrendered five unanswered goals that would prove to be an insurmountable as the visitors would skate to a 6-3 victory.
The Attack jumped on the board first, scoring just 4:12 into the first period.
Lengthy zone time by a number of Attack forward units resulted in Thomas Schemitsch's 4th goal of the year, a wrister from the point that took a few bounces in fron of the Barrie cage before evading David Ovsjanikov. Kevin Hancock and Trent Bourque were credited with assists on the play.
Owen Sound would double their lead before the opening period was half over thanks to a redirection by Josh Sterk. Bryson Cianfrone found Santino Centorame who would blast a shot from the point that Sterk was able to tip in with 9:43 gone in the frame.
Less than a minute later though, Barrie would cut into the lead thanks to Justin Scott goal on a breakaway.
The Colts then knotted the game at two on a garbage goal by Anthony Stefano with 7:32 left in the first period.
Barrie would notch their 3rd straight just over six minutes into the 2nd period off of another goalmouth scramble. Stefano would pick up his 2nd of the night off of helpers from Justin Scott and Brandon Prophet on the play, making it 3-2 for the visitors.
Cordell James would then put the Colts up by a pair on yet another scramble in front of the Attack cage, bringing Michael McNiven off of the bench in relief of Daniel Dekoning with 8:46 having elapsed in the 2nd. Dekoning made 14 saves on 18 shots in his evening of work.
The Colts would go up 5-2 on Justin Scott's 2nd of the evening, pouncing on a pass from behind the net with 9:12 left in the game.
Owen Sound would stem the bleeding though.
With 12:28 gone in the 3rd, Matthew Struthers would score his 2nd of the season, beating Ovsjanikov through the five hole to make it a 5-3 game. A pair of Jacob's, Busch and Friend would garner the assists on the goal.
Barrie would ice it with 43 seconds left in the game on an empty net goal that was the hat-trick marker for Stefano.
His 3rd of the night would be the game's final goal as the Colts would skate to a 6-3 win.
Stefano would be named the Mac Taylor Corporation 1st Star of the Game while Justin Scott would pick up 2nd star honours. The Colts would round out the stars with David Ovsjanikov's 31 saves earning him 3rd star honours.
The Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was Jacob Friend.
