Saginaw Spirit News Release

To begin the last weekend of the regular season, Saginaw played guest in Sarnia on Thursday night against the Sting at The RBC Centre. Winding down their season, the Spirit remained concentrated on finishing out the season with the same hard work that landed them their playoff position.

As soon as the puck dropped and it was game on in Sarnia, both squads were anxiously reaching for the first tally. This period although, turned out to be a battle between goaltenders as neither team managed to advance in scoring. Spirit goalie Jake Paterson stopped five shots on goal and Sting goalie JP Anderson recorded nine saves.

One minute and eighteen seconds into the second period, Nick Moutrey found himself all alone skating in on the Sting net. Moutrey recorded his 16th goal this season and was unassisted. Just over a minute later Sarnia fired back with the 1-1 goal. Nikolay Goldobin was able to put the puck between the posts with help from Anthony DeAngelo and Charlie Sarault. The second period ended similar to the first, even this time at one.

To open the scoring in the third period, Nikolay Goldobin converted his second tally of the night off assists from Charlie Sarault and Anthony DeAngelo once again giving Sarnia the go ahead goal. Firing back for the Spirit was none other than Captain Garret Ross who perfectly placed his 44th puck this season into the back of the net while shorthanded and assisted by Brandon Lindberg.

With the game sent to overtime, one Spirit player would record his first OHL wining overtime goal. Jason Shaw won the game twenty eight seconds into overtime, which handed Saginaw the road game victory against Sarnia.
