NORTH LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - After being blanked in the series opener Thursday, Connor Sadzeck helped the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, return the favor Friday night with a 3-0 shutout of the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Sadzeck (7-2) held Arkansas (34-43 overall, 2-5 second half) scoreless for six innings and gave up just three hits to earn his team-high seventh win of the season. The righty did not issue a walk and struck out seven, including all three batters in the sixth inning.
After the fourth inning, the Travelers failed to get a hit against Sadzeck and the RoughRiders (41-36, 3-5) bullpen. Joe Filomeno worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless seventh, and John Fasola retired all six batters he faced to earn his first Double-A save. The shutout was Frisco's fourth of the season and first since a 3-0 win May 3 at San Antonio.
The Riders scored runs in the first and sixth innings against Arkansas starter Victor Alcantara (2-6). Ryan Cordell brought in the first run with an infield single in the first to give Sadzeck an early run of support. Edwin Garcia extended the lead to 3-0 with a bases-loaded, two-run single in the sixth. Garcia went 2-for-4 in his first game of the season with Frisco, and he was one of four Riders who had multi-hit games.
The Riders wrap up their three-game series against the Travelers Saturday at 7:10 p.m. Southpaw Victor Payano (5-4, 3.42 ERA) will square off against righty Tyler Carpenter (4-3, 3.43 ERA). Fans can listen to the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:35 p.m.
The Riders return home to begin a six-game homestand starting Wednesday, July 6 against the Travelers and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The homestand includes a Michael Gruber bobblehead giveaway on July 7, Salute to 8-bit and Arcades Night on July 8, Princess Night on July 9, and a Smiling Teddy pillow giveaway for the first 1,500 kids 12-and-younger on July 10. Tickets for the upcoming homestand and other remaining games this season are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
