Elmore and Yarbrough Elected to TL HOF
July 1, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio - Earlier today, the Texas League announced that 11 new members had been elected to its Hall of Fame. Joining outgoing league president Tom Kayser in the 2016 class is San Antonio Missions Owner Dave Elmore and Team President Burl Yarbrough.
Mr. Elmore is in his 30th season as owner of the San Antonio franchise. He purchased the club, then named the Dodgers, at the start of the 1987 season and a year later, renamed them the Missions. Mr. Elmore, who purchased his first professional sports team in 1981, has been one of the most respected owners in all of Minor League Baseball. The Elmore Sports Group now consists of seven minor league baseball teams and one hockey team.
This is his second recent Hall of Fame honor, having been inducted into the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame in July of 2014. Since 1991, Mr. Elmore has served on the Joint Committee of the National Baseball Association of Professional Baseball Leagues.
Yarbrough joined San Antonio as the club's General Manager in the fall of 1987. The 2016 season marks Burl's 29th in the Alamo City. During his tenure, Yarbrough has won six Texas League Championships: 1997, 2002-03, 2007, 2011 and 2013.
"I am very honored to be elected into the Texas League Hall of Fame," said Yarbrough. "Growing up in Fort Worth, TX, I was a huge Texas League baseball fan. I've had the privilege of working in San Antonio for 29 years. I'm truly honored to be recognized along with our owner, Dave Elmore and with all the others I've been honored to work with over the last quarter century."
Yarbrough has guided the Missions to tops in the Texas League in attendance five times, including a then TL-record of 411,989 in 1994. That season, the organization was named the Bob Freitas Award winner by Baseball America. The honor recognizes organizations that have shown long-term stability and success. San Antonio has also earned Baseball America's Minor League Team of the Year in both 2007 and 2011 and the Texas League's Organization of the Year in 1997.
Yarbrough has been honored three times with the Bill Valentine Texas League Executive of the Year award: 1989, 1994 and 2011. He serves on various Texas League committees, ensuring the success of, not only of his club, but of the League itself.
