New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Sacramento River Cats sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring five times on seven hits, and cruised to a 8-1 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Thursday night.
The Zephyrs saw their five-game win streak snapped, but did not lose any ground in the division race, as first-place Albuquerque was defeated, 11-2 by Colorado Springs. The Z's are three games out of first with 18 games remaining.
Sacramento took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Collin Cowgill led off the game with a double to left field. He moved to third on a fly out to center, and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Daric Barton.
The River Cats broke the game open in the fourth against Zephyr starter Tom Koehler. Kila Ka'aihue led off the inning with a double, followed by three consecutive singles, and a double from Stephen Parker. A single from Collin Cowgill forced Koehler from the game, with Sacramento leading 6-0.
With two outs in the sixth, Sacramento tacked on another two runs, as Daric Barton snigled and Ka'aihue hit his 12th home run of the year, increasing the lead to 8-0.
The Zephyrs scored their lone run of the night in the bottom of the frame with a home run to right field from Chris Coghlan.
Koehler (12-9) took the loss for New Orleans, giving up six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Brad Peacock (11-7) earned the win for Sacramento, allowing just one run and four hits over six innings, fanning seven.
New Orleans will conclude the series with the final game of the homestand at 7 pm on Friday night at Zephyr Field. Right-hander Jacob Turner will take the mound for the Zephyrs, opposing righty Tyson Ross for the River Cats.
