Sacramento River Cats News Release

NASHVILLE, TN - It was a sunny day in Nashville as the Sacramento River Cats (17-27) finished their road trip on a high note, defeating the Nashville Sounds (23-20) in a 3-2 ballgame. The team's six hits, including two for extra bases, backed by a solid outing from Chris Stratton, finally broke the River Cats three-game losing streak.

The team was off to an early lead this morning. As just the second batter of the game, Ramiro Pena hit a solo home run to bring the score to 1-0. Pena's third homer of the season came on an 0-1 pitch from righty Angel Castro. Pena finished 1-for-3 on the day with one walk, two runs and one RBI.

However, the Sounds came back to give Sacramento a brief scare in the fourth. First, an RBI by Jaycob Brugman tied the game. Then, with two outs, George Kottaras threw the ball over the head of Chris Stratton, allowing Ryon Healy to score on the error.

Trailing by one run, the Sacramento outfielders put together two clutch at bats in the top of the sixth. Sounds' reliever Ryan Doolittle walked Pena, putting a man on base for the River Cats. Capitalizing on the opportunity, a single by Jarrett Parker followed by a double by Mac Williamson added two runs for the team and put Sacramento back on top 3-2.

The Sacramento offense was finally able to find their groove again today in the Music City. Parker and Williamson both went 2-for-4 on the day and picked up an RBI apiece. Parker is now hitting .278 with 13 home runs and 29 RBI. Williamson follows closely at .295 with five home runs and 24 RBI.

Defensively, Sacramento had their ninth game with two or more errors. The team is now 3-6 in those games. Chris Stratton, however, displayed his best outing on the road thus far. He allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings of work while walking three and striking out four. He lowers his road ERA from 9.00 to 7.67.

The one-run win is the fourth straight one-run game for the River Cats. It is also the first one-run win since April 26 at Tacoma when the Cats defeated the Rainiers in a 1-0 shutout. Sacramento came in today just 2-for-10 in one-run games.

The River Cats return home tomorrow and it will be the right-hander Joan Gregorio (0-1, 5.40) on the mound for Sacramento against Colorado Springs Sky Sox left-hander Sam Freeman (0-0, No ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air at ESPN 1320 following the conclusion of the Warriors game.
