TACOMA, WA - Tacoma swatted three home runs as the Rainiers (27-16) downed the Iowa Cubs (18-23) 8-1, Sunday at Cheney Stadium to execute the series sweep. The Rainiers' homers accounted for five runs on the day and three of eight hits. Iowa continues to slump with a seven-game losing streak.

Tacoma jumped on Iowa immediately as the home team put together a two-out rally in the first inning to plate the first run of the game. Iowa was shutout until the third when I-Cubs' newcomer David Bote hit a one-out single to spark the Iowa offense. John Andreoli followed with a walk, before Albert Almora Jr. drilled a RBI single to even the score. Both teams were then forced to vacate the field mid-inning for a brief rain delay, which pulled Tacoma starter Brad Mills from the game prematurely.

Cody Martin took the mound for the Rainiers following the 39-minute delay and walked Matt Murton, the first batter he faced, to load the bags with one out as he inherited two runners from Mills. Martin worked out of the jam with a double play and limited the I-Cubs' damage to a single run.

Iowa starter Drew Rucinski remained in the game, but struggled following the pause in play. Boog Powell cracked a one-out solo shot and later in the inning, Mike Zunino hit a three-run blast to extend the Tacoma lead, 4-1.

It was all Rainiers from there. Powell led off the fifth with a triple and came in to score on a RBI single from Luis Sardinas. Tacoma added two more in the seventh as Stephen Romero tallied the third homer of the game with a two-run moon shot off Brandon Gomes to make it 8-1.

Iowa was limited to just one hit through the final three frames and seven hits on the day. Almora Jr. led the effort, going 3-for-4 with the sole RBI of the game. Vogelbach went 2-for-3 with a walk. Rucinski fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss, while Martin improved to 5-3 with the win.

Iowa returns to Principal Park for an eight-game homestand beginning Monday against El Paso at 6:38 p.m. Promotions include Dog Days on Tuesday and post-game fireworks Friday. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
