Fresno Grizzlies News Release

St. Louis Cardinals top pitching prospect Alex Reyes threw in the upper 90s in his season debut for the Memphis Redbirds, striking out eight Fresno Grizzlies in four innings of work. Grizz right-hander Mike Hauschild matched him pitch for pitch early however, keeping the first half of the game scoreless before the home team blew it open in the latter half of the afternoon.

Memphis drew first blood in the sixth with one out. With two on, a single to left field by Patrick Wilson got by Jon Kemmer on an error, allowing both runners to score, and putting Wilson on third. Wilson then scored on a sac fly to left courtesy of David Washington, who drove in runs in three of the four games of the series for the Redbirds with a pair of home runs.

Hauschild struck out five batters in six innings of work, and just one of the three runs allowed was earned. It was the fifth quality start of the season for Hauschild, scattering just six hits and walking a lone batter, and he dropped to 3-5 on the year with the tough luck losing decision. Reyes allowed two hits and walked three amidst all the strikeouts.

The Grizzlies responded and got a run back in the top of the seventh, on an Andrew Aplin leadoff walk, moving to third on a Nolan Fontana single. Danny Worth then brought Aplin home on a sac fly, cutting the lead to 3-1. The Redbirds immediately restored the three-run lead on a one-out solo homer by Jonathan Rodriguez in the bottom of the seventh, a deep shot to left field and Rodriguez's fourth of the season.

The Redbirds put the finishing touches on the afternoon in the eighth, when Charlie Tilson tripled into centerfield, and scored a batter later on a line drive RBI single to center by Greg Garcia. With the bases loaded, Rodriguez added to his solo shot with a three-run double for four RBI on the day, making it an 8-1 final.

Following Reyes, Ryan Sherriff (2-0) picked up his second win of the series, allowing just two hits while tossing the fifth and sixth. Sherriff struck out four in two innings of work. With the loss and a 2-6 roadtrip, Fresno dropped to 7-15 on the road, 2-8 in day games and 3-8 in series finales.

An eight-game homestand begins on Monday, as the Triple-A Dodgers make their only visit to Fresno in the next two seasons with four games through Thursday. Oklahoma City's probable starter is right-hander Mike Bolsinger (0-0, 2.25), opposite Grizzlies' lefty Tommy Shirley (3-3, 3.03), a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Chukchansi Park.
