Reno Aces News Release
RENO - The Omaha Storm Chasers secured a 3-0 shutout over the Reno Aces Sunday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field, thanks to eight shutout innings from right-hander Christian Binford in his second Triple-A start of the season. The loss wrapped Reno's eight-game homestand at an even 4-4 record.
Less than a day removed from Archie Bradley's (@ArchieBradley7) career-high eight scoreless innings in the Aces' 3-1 victory Saturday night, Binford matched Reno's ace with a career-high eight zeroes of his own.
Aces starter Josh Collmenter - making a second Major League rehab start with Reno - threw two scoreless innings before giving way to right-hander Kyle Drabek. The Storm Chasers (24-18) broke through immediately against Drabek (@kyledrabek4) in the third for a run with a two-out rally. Brett Eibner walked and moved to second on a Hunter Dozier single. Jorge Bonifacio then singled to center, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Aces (19-23) collected two one-out singles in the fourth, but two routine flyouts erased the minor threat against Binford. Omaha tacked on a run in the fifth on a double play, and then added extra insurance in the ninth on another Bonifacio two-out, run-scoring single.
Reno threatened again in the ninth against Andrew Edwards, but Carlos Rivero (@Carlos_Rivero3) struck out in a pinch-hit appearance as the tying run at the plate, sealing the Aces' fate. The save was Edwards' second of the season.
Binford (1-0) picked up the win after allowing four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Drabek surrendered two earned runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in relief of Collmenter and dropped to 3-3 in the process.
Eibner reached base in all five of his plate appearances, going 1-for-1 with one run scored and four free passes.
Reno begins an eight-game road trip Monday with the opener of a four-game series at New Orleans. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. PT. Reno will send right-hander Braden Shipley (3-2, 3.35) to the mound, opposite Zephyrs left-hander Chris Reed (0-1, 8.00).
