Martin Rysavy and Team Czechia's stellar tournament ended in heartbreak on Thursday in Halifax, NS.

After a third period comeback, Czechia lost 3-2 in overtime to Team Canada in the gold medal game at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Rysavy moved onto Czechia's second line for the game and played a solid game with two shots and a plus-one rating in 15:39 of ice time. He was on the ice for Jakub Kos' game-tying goal late in the third period.

The Moose Jaw Warriors forward finished his second World Juniors with a goal, two assists, a plus-two rating and a silver medal.

Dylan Guenther, a former Edmonton Oil Kings forward, scored the golden goal for Canada just over six minutes into the three-on-three overtime period.

Canada had built up a 2-0 lead in the first two periods after goals from Guenther and Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright.

Czechia struck back late in the third, getting goals from Jiri Kulich and Kos only 54 seconds apart to send the game into overtime.

This is the second straight gold medal for Canada and the first medal since 2005 for Czechia.

The United States won bronze, beating Sweden 8-7 in overtime on Thursday.
