Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - For the second time in the seven weeks Jake Ryczek has been a Waterloo Black Hawk, the United States Hockey League named him its CCM Defenseman of the Week on Monday.
The Providence College recruit was part of three important Waterloo victories. On the road, the Hawks topped the Des Moines Buccaneers 5-0 on Tuesday and the Lincoln Stars 5-4 on Friday. Back at Young Arena Saturday, Ryczek and the Hawks defeated his former team, the Sioux City Musketeers, 6-4.
Individually, Ryczek recorded four points. He tallied a pair of assists in Des Moines, including one during a power play. Friday, Ryczek's third period power play goal proved to be the difference against the Stars. He had also assisted on a Liam Pecararo goal earlier in the night. Since the 18-year-old joined the team, Waterloo has climbed from a 17th-place power play ranking to 12th.
In his brief time with the Hawks, Ryczek has appeared in 16 games, notching four goals and 16 assists. On a season-long basis, he already sits as Waterloo's tenth-highest scorer. In January, NHL Central Scouting ranked the Ludlow, Massachusetts, native as the 116th-leading North American prospect eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft.
Ryczek previously was named the USHL's CCM Defenseman of the Week on February 29th. Ben Newhouse has also won the same recognition this season. Nick Swaney and Cale Morris have earned the USHL's Forward and Goaltender of the Week stripes respectively during 2015/16.
