Lekkas Named USHL Goaltender of the Week

Sioux Falls, SD - The United States Hockey League (USHL) has named Stampede goaltender Stefanos Lekkas (Steff-ah-nos Lekk-is) CCM Goaltender of the Week after leading the Herd to two victories over the weekend. The Elbrun, IL native stopped 74 of 76 shots in victories at Des Moines and Lincoln. It marks the second time this season he has earned the honor.

On Friday, Lekkas knocked aside all 18 shots he faced in the second period and 37 of 39 shots overall in a 3-2 victory at Des Moines. He followed that performance up with a 37 save shutout of the second place Lincoln Stars on Saturday night at The Ice Box. Lekkas turned aside all 17 first period shots and preserved the Stampede's 1-0 lead all night until the Herd put the game away with an empty-net goal in the final seconds. It was his second shutout of the season and sixth of his USHL career.

Lekkas is one of the hottest goaltenders in the league, going 12-2-1 with a 2.05 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage in his last 15 games. Overall, Lekkas is 23-15-3 with a 2.56 GAA and a .923 save percentage. He now has 56 regular season victories and is already committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Vermont.

The Stampede return to action Tuesday night when they host the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 PM.
