
Ryan Walters Named ECHL Player of the Week

West Valley City, Utah - Ryan Walters of the Utah Grizzlies is the Sher-Wood Athletic Group ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 26-March 4.
Walters scored five goals and added two assists for seven points in four games last week as the Grizzlies extended their unbeaten streak to an ECHL-high nine games at 8-0-0-1 with a 3-0-0-1 road trip through the Quad Cities and Indianapolis.
It marks the second-straight week that a Utah Grizzlies forward has been named Player of the Week. Austin Ortega won the award from February 19-25.
The 26-year-old Walters tallied a pair of goals in a 5-2 win at Quad City on Wednesday, posted three points (2g-1a) in a 7-6 shootout loss to the Mallards on Friday and added a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory at Indy on Saturday. He had 29 shots on the week, with at least six in all four games.
A native of Rosemount, Minnesota, Walters is tied for third in the ECHL with 28 goals and is tied for 11th with 55 points in 50 games. He began the season with Yunost Minsk in Belarus, where had 15 points (7g-8a) in 10 games. He was named the Grizzlies Captain on December 15.
Walters has recorded 225 points (102g-123a) in 238 career ECHL games with Utah, Rapid City and Alaska while adding 11 points (2g-9a) in 32 career games in the American Hockey League with Bridgeport, Iowa and San Diego.
Prior to turning pro, Walters tallied 134 points (50g-84a) in 152 games at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and had 108 points (39g-69a) in 135 career games with Des Moines of the United States Hockey League.
On behalf of Ryan Walters, a case of pucks will be donated to a Utah youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Athletic Group, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Athletic Group has donated more than 37,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
