Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (20-32-5-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, begin a four-game week tonight when the South Carolina Stingrays (36-12-6-1) make the trip across the state to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. as the intrastate rivalry reaches game nine of the season. The teams last faced off on Dec. 23 producing a 3-2 shootout game in favor of the Stingrays. Greenville is 2-4-1-1 against South Carolina this season.

DEADLINE DEALS

The Swamp Rabbits have made a pair of transactions prior to the ECHL trade deadline on Wednesday. Forward Branden Troock was shipped to the Atlanta Gladiators on Monday for future considerations while winger Jack Nevins was sent to the Idaho Steelheads earlier today for future considerations. Troock had been listed on injured reserve since Jan. 14 and missed Greenville's last 20 games. The fourth-year pro from Edmonton, Alberta had tallied just four points in his last nine games but produced 37 points (16G, 21A) in 35 games this year. Nevins has missed seven of the last eight contests due to injury. The Stittsville, Ontario native has recorded 20 points (8G, 12A) in 51 games and led Greenville with 137 PIMS.

STICK TAPS

Defenseman Daniel Echeverri tallied his first ECHL goal on Saturday night against the Florida Everblades. The blue liner has played ten games for Greenville this season and recorded four points (1G, 3A) since his call up from the Macon Mayhem. Echeverri has recorded a point in each of the last two games and is plus-3 in his last five outings. The 5-foot-9 skater will play his 100th professional game tonight.

POWERFUL PLAYER

Brenden Kotyk found the back of the net on Saturday for the seventh time this season, ranking sixth among ECHL first-year defensemen. Kotyk's power play tally was his third goal on special teams pushing him to 15th among blue liners this year. The rookie has tallied 17 points (7G, 10A) in 50 games this year, third most by a Swamp Rabbits defenseman. The University of Minnesota-Duluth alum had recorded 23 points (7G, 16A) in 97 NCAA games with the Bulldogs prior to turning pro.

BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES

Stingrays goaltenders Parker Milner and Jeff Jakaitis have been stalwarts in net this season. Milner is atop the ECHL with a 1.93 goals against average and second with a .935 save percentage to go with an 18-3-1-1 record. The fifth-year pro from Boston College has also teamed up with the ECHL's three-time Goaltender of the Year and leagues 2015 MVP. Jakaitis' return to the league after two seasons overseas has been a success. The 11th-year pro out of Lake Superior State University has posted a 15-6-2-0 record, 2.17 goals against average, and .920 save percentage. Each Stingrays netminder has posted a pair of shutouts this year.

CARROT BITES

Joe Basaraba is two points away from recording his 150th in his four pro seasons.

The Swamp Rabbits power play is among the top eight in the ECHL with 44 goals this year on the man advantage (18.5%).

Stingrays captain Joe Devin leads his club with 45 points (17G, 28A) in 55 games.

Due to injury, goaltender Brandon Halverson will not dress tonight, and Nolan Bowker has been added to the roster as an emergency back-up.

The Stingrays added defenseman Joey Leach back to the roster today following an AHL call-up to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

South Carolina can clinch a playoff spot tonight with either a win or an overtime / shootout loss.
