Russell Branyan To Rehab At Canal Park Friday Night

The Aeros announced today that Tribe slugger Russell Branyan will rehab with the Aeros on Friday night at Canal Park. Branyan, who has been rehabbing with the Columbus Clippers, is set to join the Aeros as the Clippers head out for a nine game road trip starting on Friday. Branyan played in four games with the Clippers at Huntington Park going 4 for 11 with two RBI.

Branyan, who originally played with the Akron Aeros in 1997 and 1998, played in a total of 41 games in '97 and 43 games during the '98 season. During his stint in Akron, he hit a total of 28 home runs and he drove in a total of 76 runs.

A seventh-round pick (185th overall) of the Cleveland Indians in 1994, Branyan is has played 12 season in his major league career and has played in a total of 882 major league games. He was drafted by Cleveland and played with the Tribe for a total of five years before being traded by the Indians to the Cincinnati Reds for 1B Ben Broussard on June 7, 2002. Branyan was then granted free agency in 2003 before spending time with the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres and the Cleveland Indians again as a free agent on Aug. 7, 2007. Branyan then had his contract purchased from the Indians by the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 9, 2007 before joining the St. Louis Cardinals and making his second stint with Milwaukee before having a nice year in Seattle last season. The Tribe signed Branyan to a one-year deal worth around $2 million in February of this year.
