April 16, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, made history on Friday night when Merchantsauto.com Stadium became the first Granite State location and the first Minor League baseball stadium to ever generate a Swarm among users of the fast-growing social media outlet Foursquare. The Fisher Cats' accomplishment highlighted Foursquare DayManchester, a partnership among social media experts, award-winning advertising agency wed-, Mayor Ted Gatsas and a number of Manchester businesses.

"We had a lot of fun working with wed-, our other partners and Mayor Gatsas to encourage people to check in at Merchantsauto.com Stadium tonight through their Foursquare account," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "Social media outlets like Foursquare continue to make it easier to connect with our fans in new and creative ways, and tonight's response shows us that people enjoy this interactive relationship with the Fisher Cats."

Foursquare is a location-based social networking site that incorporates gaming elements, allowing registered users to connect with friends and update their location. With close to 1,000,000 users already, Foursquare is growing faster than Myspace, Facebook and Twitter did. Foursquare Day Manchester was a celebration of social media and the power it offers to local businesses. A coveted swarm badge can only by obtained when 50 or more registered users check in simultaneously at the same location, which occurred during tonight's Fisher Cats/Binghamton Mets game. For more information on Foursquare, visit www.foursquare.com.

The Fisher Cats and the Mets play the third game of their four-game series at 1:35pm Saturday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ted Williams Bobblehead, courtesy of Coca-Cola. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
