Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies snapped their five-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Akron RubberDucks in the series opener at NYSEG Stadium.
RHP Mickey Jannis (5-1) set the franchise record for career wins as he picked up his 26th victory in a Rumble Ponies uniform. He allowed one run on eight hits and struck out two over six innings. He moves ahead of Tyler Pill, who pitched for the Ponies from 2013-2017 and won 25 games.
At the plate, Patrick Mazeika was 2-2 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored. He hit his ninth home run of the season in the fourth, which pulled him into a tie with Barrett Barnes for the team lead. Mazeika has a team-high 45 RBI on the season.
Jason Krizan also knocked in a run with an RBI double in the fifth. David Thompson plated the fourth Ponies' run with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth.
The RubberDucks left nine runners on base and were 1-10 with runners in scoring position. In both the sixth and seventh innings, they had runners on first and third with nobody out. In both innings, Jannis and RHP Joe Zanghi retired the next three batters and prevented any runs from scoring.
The second game of the series is Friday night at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Austin McGeorge takes the mound for the Ponies against LHP Adam Scott for the RubberDucks. First pitch will be at 7:05PM and can be heard on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pregame show starts at 6:50 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: Barnes singled in both the first and fifth innings to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games... RHP Stephen Villines picked up his sixth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
