Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - A walk-off, two-run double from Robbie Glendinning completed a three-run 10th inning as the Altoona Curve earned a thrilling, 6-5 win over the Erie SeaWolves on Thursday at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
It was the Curve's first walk-off win on the Fourth of July in team history and Thursday's sellout crowd of 8,806 ranks as the ninth-highest attended regular-season game in stadium history.
The Curve (45-38, 10-6) entered the bottom of the 10th trailing, 5-3, after the SeaWolves (44-38, 13-3) scored twice in the top of the first extra frame. Chris Sharpe brought the Curve within one run with an RBI single and Jared Oliva followed with a single, then stole second, which put runners on second and third with one out. The next batter, Glendinning, crushed a two-run double over Cam Gibson's head and off the base of the left field wall off Will Vest (Loss, 2-4) to finish off the Curve's fourth walk-off win of the season. Glendinning, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, has 13 RBIs in his last 13 games.
The SeaWolves brief 5-3 lead in the top of the 10th came against Curve reliever Austin Coley (Win, 1-1). Frank Schwindel forced in the go-ahead run with a bases loaded hit by pitch and another run scored when Josh Lester ripped a hot shot into right field that deflected of Curve second baseman Mitchell Tolman.
Altoona led 3-2 through seven innings, but Erie tied the game in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jesus Liranzo walked Daniel Pinero on a full-count pitch to force in the tying run, Liranzo's third walk of the inning. The Curve had previously taken a one-run lead on an RBI groundout from Jerrick Suiter in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Oliva, who doubled to start the frame.
Sean Brady started for the Curve and gave up two runs in the first inning to Jose Azocar. From there, he settled in with a season-high-tying six strikeouts and one walk. Brady recorded his 500th career strikeout in the third inning and held the SeaWolves scoreless over his final six innings of work. Brady was matched by Erie starter Alex Faedo, who gave up three runs on six hits in six innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Sharpe evened the score at 2-2 in the first with a two-run homer off Faedo. He finished the night 2-for-5 with three RBIs and has four home runs and 16 RBIs in 15 games with the Curve since being promoted from A-Adv. Bradenton on June 20. He's collected 13 of those 16 RBIs in his last six games. Oliva, who went 3-for-5, scored the game-winning run and stole a base, has recorded three three-hit games in his last five.
The Curve and SeaWolves continue their four-game series on Friday at 7 p.m. The Curve will give the ball to left-hander Brandon Waddell (0-1, 2.77) against SeaWolves right-hander Tim Adleman (2-0, 2.57).
