Akron RubberDucks News Release
Summary
Akron right-hander Adam Plutko fired seven strong innings, allowing just one run, and the RubberDucks backed him with a baker's dozen hits in a 9-1 victory over the Altoona Curve Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks (52-49) snapped a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Ronny Rodriguez ripped a two-run single to left off Jason Creasy (8-4). Ryan Rohlinger added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 3-0. In the fourth, Akron sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six more runs to extend the lead to 9-1. Carlos Moncrief highlighted the big rally in the fourth with a two-run double.
Mound Presence
Plutko was outstanding from the first pitch of the night. He retired the first eight batters he faced, and allowed his only run of the game in the fourth inning when Adam Frazier doubled and Dan Gamache lined an RBI single to right. Plutko (5-4) matched his longest Double-A outing, working seven full innings on 94 pitches. He did not issue a walk, and he struck out five.
Duck Tales
Rodriguez was 3-5, with a double and three RBI. Moncrief was 2-4, with a walk. Bradley Zimmer had a pair of doubles, and two runs scored. Yandy Diaz collected a pair of hits, going 2-6, to raise his team-high average to .312.
