Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Binghamton Mets mustered just two hits against Trenton Thunder start Brady Lail in a 3-0 loss on Saturday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. Binghamton sent two over the minimum to the plate in their sixth shutout loss of the season. Travis d'Arnaud singled in three trips to the plate, caught five innings and picked a runner off first base in his first rehab game with the B-Mets.
Lail worked around a one-out walk in a scoreless first inning and stepped around a walk in a blank second. Following the free pass, the Utah native retired twelve consecutive B-Mets. Gavin Cecchini singled with two outs in the sixth, but was stranded when Lail retired d'Arnaud to preserve the scoreless game.
B-Mets starter Rainy Lara matched Lail through five scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered five hits in his first two trips through the Thunder lineup.
Lara's third trip was a bit bumpier. Trenton snapped the scoreless game with authority in the sixth. Danny Oh opened the rally with a leadoff double to the left-field alley. After Tony Renda lined an RBI single to left, Mark Payton launched a two-run homer to right, pushing the Thunder to a 3-0 lead.
Cecchini's single was just a hiccup for Lail as the righty slammed the door on Binghamton's comeback hopes by retiring the final 10 batters of the game. Lail induced Xorge Carrillo to fly out to left-field to end the game, sealing his first career complete game.
Lail (6-3) struck out four, walked one and needed 108 pitches to two-hit the B-Mets. Lara (5-3) was touched for three runs on a season-high nine hits in the complete-game defeat.
The B-Mets (54-45) conclude their only visit to Trenton in the regular season on Sunday evening at 5:00 PM. RHP Seth Lugo takes the mound for Binghamton. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 4:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
