RubberDucks Split DH at Binghamton, 3-6, 3-0

(Binghamton, NY) April 5, 2014 - Despite temperatures hovering around 40-degrees, and a gusty, biting wind howling out to right field that made it feel more like 25-degrees, the Akron RubberDucks and Binghamton Mets played a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium.

After the Mets captured game one, 6-3, the RubberDucks bounced back to gain a split with a 3-0 shutout victory in the nightcap. Akron has now taken two of the first three games in the series, with the wrap-up scheduled for Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

Righthander Toru Murata (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings in game two to earn his first win of the season. Murata, who is scheduled to work out of the RubberDucks bullpen, made the spot start, and gave up only three hits, all singles. Only once did he work with a runner as far as second base. He walked one and struck out four. Lefty Kyle Crockett tossed a scoreless sixth, and righthander Enosil Tejeda struck out three in the seventh to post his first save.

Joe Wendle, the Indians Minor League Player of the Year last season, made stroked a long homer to center field in the third inning off Tyler Pill (0-1). It was Wendle's initial Double-A hit. Tyler Holt and Tyler Naquin added RBI singles in game two for Akron. Naquin was 3-8 on the afternoon.

In game one, the B-Mets broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run fifth inning. Jayce Boyd's wind-aided, two-run double to right was the difference-maker, and hung a loss on Akron starter Joe Colon (0-1). Colon went 4 2/3 in his Double-A debut, giving up five hits and five earned runs.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor was 2-4 in game one, including a two-run homer. It was his first home run of the season.

Lindor also finished 3-8 in the double-dip.

The RubberDucks (2-1) and B-Mets (1-2) will play the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:05. RHP Will Roberts (NR) will make his season debut for Akron, while RHP Hansel Robles (NR) will do the same for Binghamton.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season the 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks. The home opener at Canal Park is scheduled for Thursday, April 10th at 6:35 p.m. against the Bowie Baysox.
