Berry Deals in Season Debut

Bowie, Md. - It took 11 innings for the Baysox (3-0) to keep their early season winning streak alive with a 4-3 victory over the Harrisburg Senators (0-3) Saturday night. Buck Britton's two-out bases loaded walk-off single allowed the Baysox to finally put away a game they had led until Harrisburg tied it up in the top of the ninth inning.

The Baysox offense looked as if it was poised for another big night after a three run first inning, but the bats went quiet after Harrisburg starter Rob Gilliam came out of the game. Bowie recorded just six hits in the final 10 innings, but they proved to be enough to hold on for the win.

Baysox starter Tim Berry was stellar in his first start of the season, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking one in the no decision.

"The change-up was working for me today," Berry said. "I was commanding it well and it had better action than it usually has. You mix that with the fastball and that's really all you need to keep hitters off balance. My curveball I just kind of sprinkled in."

The Baysox offense picked up right where it left off with three first inning runs against Gilliam. John Ruettiger drew a lead off walk and Britton followed with a single to center field. K.D. Kang singled to right field to load the bases and a Christian Walker sacrifice fly brought home the first run of the inning. Dariel Alvarez knocked in two more runs with a double to center field to give Bowie the early lead.

"We got three in the first and from that point on I had room to breathe," Berry said. "I was able to just go and try to turn over the inning as quickly as possible and try to get back in the dugout. When you get a quick cushion like that it's nice because you can focus on pounding the zone."

The Senators got one run back in the top of the fourth inning against Berry. Michael Taylor drew a lead off walk, stole second and advanced to third base on a throwing error by catcher David Freitas. He then scored on a Cutter Dykstra groundout to make the score 3-1.

Harrisburg got another run back in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox left-handed reliever Chris Petrini. Caleb Ramsey hit a one out single to right field and Brandon Bantz brought him home with a double to left field to make the score 3-2.

The Senators tied the game 3-3 in the top of the ninth against Baysox reliever Oliver Drake. Cutter Dykstra reached second with one out on a fielder's choice and moved to third base on a Matt Skole single to center field. Jason Martinson brought home the tying run with a single to third base.

The Baysox were finally able to come away with the 4-3 win in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 11th inning against Harrisburg reliever Neil Holland. Sharlon Schoop hit a lead off double to right field and Chih-Hsien Chiang was intentionally walked. Ruettiger walked to load the bases with two outs and Britton singled to second base to bring home the game-winning run.

Petrini pitched one inning in relief and allowed one run on two hits while striking one. Drake came on the pitch the ninth and tenth innings and allowed one run on three hits while walking one and striking out three. Reliever Matt Bischoff got the win, pitching a scoreless 11th inning and striking out the side.

Holland took the loss for Harrisburg, pitching the final two and two-thirds innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out two and walking two.

RHP Zach Davies takes the mound for the Baysox Saturday as the team plays the final game in a four game series with the Harrisburg Senators. He will be opposed by LHP Matt Purke.

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, April 9 for a seven game homestand. Promotional highlights include Mutt Monday, April 6 beginning at 6:35 p.m and the first Dollar Dog Night of the season Tuesday, April 7 beginning at 6:35 p.m.
