Akron RubberDucks News Release

Summary

The Akron RubberDucks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning on catcher Alex Lavisky's three-run double and never lost the lead behind an excellent start by Mike Clevinger, in a 6-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Lavisky's three-run, second-inning double gave Akron a 3-0 lead and first baseman Joe Sever delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning, pushing the score to 5-0 before Clevinger and the bullpen closed the door.

Mound Presence

Clevinger threw 6.2 scoreless innings for Akron, allowing just three hits while walking no one and fanning four. He turned it over to reliever Ben Heller, who threw 1.1 scoreless innings in his first game at Canal Park after being promoted from Lynchburg (A) on Aug. 1 while the team was on the road. Heller struck out the side in order in the eighth inning before Enosil Tejeda came in and duplicated the feat in the ninth inning with three straight strikeouts to close the game.

Duck Tales

The two big hits came on Lavisky's three-run double in the second inning and Sever's two-run single in the fifth inning, which was part of his 3-for-3 night-his first three-hit game in Double-A. Bradley Zimmer had a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the seventh inning to close out the scoring. Carlos Moncrief walked twice and scored a pair of runs.
