Harrisburg Senators News Release

Wilmer Difo's go-ahead RBI double in the top of the ninth inning surged the Harrisburg Senators to a 5-4 win over the Erie Seawolves Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. The victory brings the Senators (55-58) back within three games of .500.

The Senators scored first Friday night as Difo doubled to lead off the game and Brian Goodwin followed with a walk. The duo double stole second and third, but the throw went past second and into centerfield, allowing Difo to score. Erie responded quickly with two in the first and one in the second off Senators starter, John Simms, to take a 3-1 lead.

Harrisburg's offense remained quiet until the sixth inning Chris Bostick and Shawn Pleffner singled in front of Cutter Dykstra, who doubled into the left field corner. Both runners scored to tie the game and Dykstra scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning by Pedro Severino to take the lead, 4-3.

Simms settled down to throw 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and leaving in line for the win. Simms walked two and struck out three while throwing 94 pitches and 60 strikes. Bryan Harper entered and induced a ground out followed by a strikeout, but the third strike bounced away, allowing the runner to reach. After a walk, Gilberto Mendez entered and finished the seventh inning with a groundout. However, Mendez walked the leadoff runner in the eighth inning and followed that by allowing a game-tying RBI double.

Severino started the top of the ninth with a single and Adrian Sanchez walked with one out to set up Difo, who doubled off Erie first baseman Dominic Ficociello's glove down the right field line. Severino sped around third to score the go-ahead run. The Senators left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, but Paul Demny pitched a scoreless ninth, working around a Senators' error, to earn his second save.

Harrisburg and Erie will play game two of three tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 6:50 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
