Akron RubberDucks News Release
(Akron, Ohio) A late two-run homer from first baseman Matt Skole helped the Harrisburg Senators to a 6-4 comeback victory against the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday night at Canal Park.
An early solo homer in the second inning off the bat of Kevin Keyes gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead, and ended a streak of 20 shutout innings at home for the RubberDucks, dating back to the May 24th contest against Reading. Tony Wolters stole home with two outs in the bottom of the second to get Akron on the board and tie the game, 1-1. The Senators began the third inning with three consecutive hits, which helped plate two runs, making it 3-1 in the Senator's favor.
The RubberDucks began their half of the third in a similar fashion after Tyler Naquin led off the inning with a triple. A Joe Wendle homer to right field followed, tying the score at 3-3. It was Wendle's fifth homer on the season, and his second two-run homer.
After two scoreless innings, in which RubberDucks starter Cody Anderson retired 11 consecutive batters, the RubberDucks broke the tie. Following a Ronny Rodriguez two-out single, Bryson Myles raced to the plate and scored on a missed-catch error by catcher Brian Jeroloman, giving Akron a 4-3 edge.
Skole's two-RBI homer came in the top of the eighth, giving the Senators a 5-4 edge before they tagged on one more run in the ninth, handing them the 6-4 victory.
Harrisburg reliever Matt Grace (2-1) picked up the win after pitching 2.1 scoreless innings and allowing three hits while fanning three. Akron reliever Adam Miller (0-1) absorbs the loss after two relief innings in which the Senators recorded two hits and two runs. Tyler Herron allowed a pair of hits in the ninth to post his second save.
The RubberDucks and Harrisburg Senators will close out the three-game series at Canal Park on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
RHP Joe Colon (4-2) will start on the mound for the RubberDucks, while Paolo Espino is expected to start for the Senators. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM in the Akron area, and also via www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
