PEORIA, AZ - Manni Juan and Shane Costa each smacked solo home runs in the eighth inning Tuesday, helping the Omaha Royals defeat the Portland Beavers 5-3. The victory improves the Royals record in Cactus League play to 7-3-1.

The score was tied 3-3 entering the eighth when Juan homered in his first at-bat to lead off the inning. One out later, Costa went deep. Costa had tripled home Omaha's first run in a three-run fourth inning, which broke a scoreless tie. Chris Lubanski followed with a triple and scored on Brian Buchanan's double.

However, Portland tied the score in the fifth with a three-run outburst off Matt Wright, who had shut out the Beavers in the previous two frames. Luke Hochevar started for the Royals and tossed two scoreless innings. Ben Hendrickson followed Wright to the hill in the sixth and got the win with three scoreless stanzas. Nate Hoelscher worked a scoreless ninth inning for the save.

Omaha visits the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, on Wednesday in Peoria, Arizona.

The Royals 2008 season opener is set for Rosenblatt Stadium on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:05 p.m. vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes. For tickets, call the Royals ticket office at (402) 738-5100, or order and print tickets online at www.oroyals.com and at www.Etix.com.
