Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - A two-point night from Sean Wiles and a 22-save performance from Connor Knapp led the Reading Royals (33-13-1-1) past the Cincinnati Cyclones (21-20-0-4) by a 5-0 final score in front of 2,579 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
The Royals got on the board first at the 3:46 mark of the opening frame, when Sean Wiles caught a long pass from Michael Caruso and sniped a breakaway goal over Rob Madore (L, 24 saves, 9-10-0-3) to make it 1-0. And while the teams traded plenty additional chances in the frame, the visitors would carry the one-goal cushion into the first intermission.
Reading bookended the middle stanza with a pair of goals to extend its edge. Just 1:21 into the middle stanza, Jordan Heywood beat Madore with a wrist shot from the mid-slot to make it 2-0. Then, with just under two minutes remaining in the frame, David Marshall caught a perfect backhanded feed from Ryan Cruthers and lifted home his 16th goal of the season. After 40 minutes, the Royals held a 3-0 lead.
Unfortunately, the offensive trend continued for Reading in the final period as well; at the 11:21 mark, David Marshall received a pass from Olivier Labelle in the low slot and found the net for another insurance tally. Adam Hughesman and Pat Mullane followed with lamplighters at 11:21 and 16:36, respectively, as the Royals capped off the scoring at five. At the other end of the ice, goaltender Connor Knapp (W, 22 saves, 17-7-0) kept the Cyclones off the scoreboard the rest of the way and secured his first shutout of the season as his team picked up the 5-0 victory.
The Cyclones will be back on the ice at U.S. Bank Arena this Friday night when they play host to the Indy Fuel at 7:30pm! The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a limited-edition Cyclones Blanket courtesy of U.C. Health! Plus, all fans can enjoy $1 John Morrell Hot Dogs throughout the night!
