Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO, (February 11, 2015) - The Missouri Mavericks fought hard against the Quad City Mallards in Moline, IL during their first road contest since January 19th, but were unable to match the Mallards in the final minutes of regulation, ultimately falling by a close score of 3-2 on Wednesday night.
The Mallards took an early 1-0 lead only 3:52 into the opening period as Anthony Collins, assisted by Matt Duffy and Mario Lamoureux. Geoff Walker captured the equalizer for the Mavericks at 14:18 of the first, unassisted to make the scoreboard read 1-1.
Then Lindsay Sparks, notching his third goal in two games for Missouri took the lead with a quick shot besting Mallards net minder Parker Milner. Jack Downing and Jared Brown collected assists on Sparks' tally.
Quad City leveled the ice sheet again when Jeff Lee took a perfect pass from Nicholas Rioux to tie the game 2-2 at 11:43 of the second period, taking the only point of the frame.
It was nearly a game sent to overtime as neither team would budge for the other, when Mario Lamoureux, aided by Matt Duffy and Nick Grasso bumped the Mallards ahead 3-2 over the Mavericks with only 2:44 left in regulation. Missouri fought hard through the final minutes, pulling goaltender Josh Robinson in favor of a sixth skater, but were unable to connect with the back of the net to earn a point in Moline, IL Wednesday night.
