Burlington Sock Puppets News Release
Johnson City, Tenn. - The Royals offense came out in Tennessee guns blazing on Monday, putting together a 13-0 onslaught of the Johnson City Cardinals.
Burlington started the scoring in the top of the third on a two-run home run from Michael Massey, his third long ball of the season. The Royals tacked on another run in the top of the fourth courtesy of William Hancock's RBI double to pad the lead to 3-0.
After a couple of quiet innings, Mikey Filia reached on an error in the top of the seventh that allowed Logan Porter to score and give the B-Royals a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the eighth, however, the Royals bats really started cooking. Maikel Garcia hit a sacrifice fly, Massey roped an RBI double and Logan Porter brought in two runs after legging out an inside-the-park homer to burgeon the Burlington lead to 8-0.
To add insult to injury, the Royals scored five more runs in the top of the ninth to get to the 13-0 final score.
Meanwhile, the Johnson City offense was held silent all night. Burlington starter Delvin Capellan moved to 3-1 on the season after earning the win with five scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Cardinals starter Luis Ortiz took the loss and falls to 0-2 on the year.
The Royals and Cards are set to square off again on Tuesday at TVA Credit Union Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
