Kingsport Axmen News Release
Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets continue to find ways to win at home, as they overcame deficits of 4-0 and 8-7 to walkoff the Elizabethton Twins 9-8 Tuesday evening.
Anthony Dirocie delivered the game's biggest blow on a slow infield single, allowing Cole Kleszcz to score the game-winning run.
Kleszcz was aboard after hitting a one-out, game-tying double four batters earlier, scoring pinch runner Tanner Murphy.
However, the game only reached this fever pitch in the ninth inning following some incredible twists and turns.
The Twins got the scoring started with a four-run top of the third in which the visitors notched four hits, including RBI hits from Seth Gray and Parker Phillips.
The Mets would respond just one inning later by putting a crooked number of their own on the board, when they sent ten men to the plate and scored seven runs in the fourth.
Kleszcz and Dirocie each had an RBI-double in the frame, and Andres Regnault capped the inning with a two-run shot to left.
Elizabethton would chip away and eventually take the lead in the seventh on a Will Holland two-run double.
But it was Kingsport who would have the last laugh Tuesday evening, as the Mets were able to hand Benjamin Dum his first loss and blown save of the season.
Connor Wollersheim picked up the win in relief for Kingsport, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.
The series will wrap up tomorrow night with the third and final game against the Twins. Tomorrow is Senior Night presented by Humana, where seniors will receive special ticket and drink offers. First pitch is set for 6:30.
