Burlington Sock Puppets News Release

A pair of Royals Rookie-Advanced farmhands were among Minor League Baseball's weekly award winners for July 29-August 4, as announced yesterday. Burlington Royals shortstop Maikel Garcia was honored as the Appalachian League Player of the Week, while Idaho Falls Chukars right hander Nathan Webb earned the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week award.

SS Maikel Garcia

Garcia went on a tear at the plate from July 29-August 4, batting .500/.542/.682 (11-for-22) in five games for Burlington, with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, six RBI, two walks and two steals. He posted a multi-hit effort in all four of the games in which he had a hit, with his lone blemish of the week being an 0-for-4 on August 2. In the other four games, the 19-year-old went 3-for-6, 3-for-5, 2-for-4 and 3-for-3, as the Royals won three of the five contests he played in over the week.

Originally from La Sabana, Venezuela, Garcia is in his third season in the Royals organization after being signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2016.

RHP Nathan Webb

Webb made one start in the period from July 29-August 4 and made it count, tossing his first career shutout in the second game of a doubleheader against Billings on August 2. The 21-year-old yielded just five hits, one hit batter and one walk over his 7.0 innings of work. He also matched his career high with 10 strikeouts, reaching double digits for the third time in nine games (eight starts) this season. Webb's 58 strikeouts on the year are second most among all Rookie-Advanced pitchers, just three behind the leader, and mark a new career high for the young right hander.

A native of Lee's Summit who worked on the Kauffman Stadium grounds crew while in high school, Webb was selected in the 34th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Lee's Summit North High School. This is his fourth professional season.
