Reading Royals News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL (6-4-1-1=14, 2nd East Division), affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, beat the Trenton Devils, 3-2, at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Royals scored three straight in the third to overcome a late game two goal deficit. Goaltender Andrew Engelage (win, 2-0-0-0; 18/20) won for the second time in two starts for the Royals; Trenton's Dave Caruso (loss, 2-4-1; 29/32) sustained his fourth regulation loss of the year. Reading failed to capitalize on three chances with the man advantage. Both of Trenton's goals were scored while they were on the power play (2-6).

Trenton struck 10:23 into the game, when Mike Harder threw a perfect blind, behind the back pass from deep on the left wing side to Dan Eves who slid up on the back door for a one-timer that racked up his third goal of the year. After a scoreless second, the Devils took a two goal lead with their second power play goal of the game. On this one, Harder took control at the left side of the Royals' net and chipped over Engelage, who was prone on the ice, at the 2:41 mark of the third period.

1:34 later, Reading started the comeback effort when Gavin Morgan took control behind the Trenton net. Morgan slipped a pass to the top of the right circle where Scott Fletcher blasted a one-timer behind Caruso for his second goal of the year. The Royals tied the game at two at the 8:52 mark of the third, when Morgan ripped one from the right point that Charlie Kronschnabel deflected behind Caruso for his third of the year. The Royals got what proved to be the game winner at the 10:24 mark of the third, when Daniel Steiner carried into the left circle, spun and fed to Ben Gordon, who slipped a pass across the top of the crease to the right side of the net, where Ryan Cruthers tapped it in for his second of the year. Trenton pressed in the waning moments-which included a grade-A scoring chance right on the buzzer. But the Royals dodged that late-game bullet to take the first of what will be fourteen games between these two teams over the course of the season.

The Royals and Devils go at it again tomorrow night (Saturday, November 14, 2009 @ 7:00 pm) at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. Saturday's broadcast time is 6:30 pm on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com.
