Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals could not overcome a 3-0 first period deficit against the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, N.C., falling 4-2 for the team's fifth straight loss.

While the Jackals had an early power play, the Checkers struck first, as Andrew Carroll backhanded a puck top shelf past Chris Holt for the 1-0 lead shorthanded at 1:30 of the first period.

After a Matt Schepke goal put Charlotte up 2-0 just past the midway point of the opening period, Julian Brouillette slapped home a puck from the high slot for the 3-0 lead at 13:34. Jackals goaltender Chris Holt was still recovering from a great chance by Daniel Tkaczuk when the puck came right to Brouillette who scored his third of the season on the play.

The Jackals trailed 3-0 entering the second period, but climbed back quickly. At 52 seconds, Justin Donati found brother Tyler Donati in the high slot who shot the puck past Charlotte goaltender Mikka Wiikman for the Jackals first goal of the game.

Later in the period, with the Jackals on the power play, Chanse Fitzpatrick fired home a shot from the right circle with captain Olivier Proulx in front creating traffic. It was Fitzpatrick's tenth goal of the season and it made the score 3-2 in favor of Charlotte at 5:58. The Donati brothers had assists on the goal, for their league-leading 20th points of the season.

However, the Jackals could muster no more, and TJ Reynolds added an empty-net goal at 19:00 of the third period to seal the 4-2 victory for Charlotte. Wiikman made 24 saves on the evening on 22 Jackals shots for his first victory of the season. Holt, making his first start against the Checkers, a team he skated for three seasons from 2005 to 2008, made 42 stops on 45 Charlotte bids.

The Jackals head to Duluth, Ga. to face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. The Jackals shoot for their first victory in the month of November in the first of three meetings with the Gladiators this season.
