Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Forwards Joe Sullivan and Zeb Knutson each scored, as the Manchester Monarchs were topped, 4-2, by the Reading Royals, Saturday night at SNHU Arena.
The Monarchs (4-4-1-1) dropped their second straight game to the Royals (5-1-1-2), on the back of 36 saves by Royals goaltender, Branden Komm.
Just 2:59 into the first period, Reading defenseman, Steve Johnson found forward, Jack Riley with a back-door pass, that he deflected past Monarchs goaltender, Brandon Wildung, to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
The Royals extended their lead at 8:35 of the first period, when Michael Huntebrinker connected with Frankie DiChiara at the top of the right faceoff circle, where he ripped a short-side shot over Wildung's blocker, to make the score, 2-0.
At 10:05 of the second period, a blocked shot in the Monarchs offensive zone led to a partial breakaway for Reading forward Josh MacDonald. MacDonald fought off the defense before roofing a backhand shot over Wildung's glove, to extend the lead to 3-0.
Just over three minutes later, at 13:22 of the second period, Joe Sullivan scored his first goal of the season and first professional goal, to cut the Royals lead to 3-1. Matt Marcinew jumped on a turnover at the defensive blue line and rushed up ice. Marcinew fed Spencer Watson down the right side, where Watson sent a cross-ice pass to Sullivan for a one-timer that beat Komm over the glove.
Reading reclaimed its three-goal lead in the final minute of the second period when forward Steven Swavely picked up the puck behind Wildung's net and found Adam Schmidt at the top of the crease for a one-timer, that made it a 4-1 game.
The Monarchs tacked on another goal at 18:47 of the third period, when Zeb Knutson received a pass on the right faceoff dot and wristed a shot past Komm, to make the score, 4-2.
The Monarchs return to action Friday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m., when they take on the Newfoundland Growlers in St. Johns. For tickets, Season Memberships and group tickets, please contact the Monarchs front office at 603-626-7825.
