March 21, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals will battle their coastal rival, the Vancouver Giants for Games 1 and 2 of Round 1 of the 2018 WHL Playoffs presented by League and Williams Law, Double N Hardwood Floors, Victoria Hyundai, Gillis Plumbing and Dodd's Furniture & Mattress. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, March 23rd, while Game 2 will be played on Saturday, March 24th. Puck drop for both contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
EXPERIENCE COUNTS: The Royals' and Vancouver Giants' rosters have a combined 412 games worth of playoff experience between the two teams. Victoria holds the edge as their roster has 336 playoff games played with Tyler Soy leading the team with 44 games in the post-season. Meanwhile, the Giants' roster has played in a total of 76 playoff games. Former Royal Jared Dmytriw leads his club with 26 post-season contests.
SENSATIONAL SOY: Royals' veteran Tyler Soy is close to several franchise playoff records. Soy needs one goal to set the franchise mark for most all-time playoff goals at 15. The product of Cloverdale, BC, is three points away from tying the franchise record for the most post-season points at 31. The 1997-born skater (14) is also three assists away from tying the all-time franchise mark for most playoff helpers at 17. All three of these playoff franchise records were set by former Royal Jack Walker who tallied 31 points (14g-17a) in 38 career playoff games from 2013-2017.
