Raiders Drafting Third Overall in WHL Bantam Draft
March 21, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders found out where they will be drafting in the first round of the WHL Bantam Draft on Wednesday morning.
The Kootenay ICE won the WHL Bantam Draft Lottery, which was held at the WHL Office in Calgary. With their win, the ICE moved up from the fourth selection to the second selection.
As a result, the Raiders will pick third overall in the WHL Bantam Draft via the Prince George Cougars' selection.
The Raiders acquired the Cougars' first-round pick last season along with current Raiders defenceman Max Martin in a trade that saw Brendan Guhle go the other way. Coincidentally, the last time the Raiders had the third overall selection in the WHL Bantam Draft, Prince Albert drafted Brendan Guhle in 2012.
This is the second consecutive year that the Raiders are in the WHL Bantam Draft Lottery. Last year, the Raiders won the lottery to leap over Kootenay for the first overall pick. With that pick, the Raiders selected Sherwood Park's Kaiden Guhle. This season, Guhle had 14 goals and 25 assists from the blueline in 35 games for OHA Edmonton Prep. Guhle also dressed in eight games for the Raiders, picking up an assist and four penalty minutes.
The WHL Bantam Draft will be held on Thursday, May 3 in Red Deer, AB.
The Raiders begin their opening round WHL Playoffs series on Friday night in Moose Jaw against the top-seeded Warriors. Game time is 7 p.m.
On Saturday, the Raiders are sending a fan bus to Moose Jaw for Game 2 of the best-of-seven series. The cost is $70 per person and includes transportation to and from Moose Jaw, as well as a ticket to the game. The bus will leave from the Art Hauser Centre at 3 p.m.
The Raiders then return home to the Art Hauser Centre for Game 3 and Game 4 on Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28, respectively. Both games begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at raiderhockey.com and the Raider Office.
