Hurricanes Claim Four League Honours

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Western Hockey League announce Wednesday that the Lethbridge Hurricanes have been awarded four league awards.

Hurricanes overage netminder Logan Flodell was named the Eastern Conference recipient of the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy as the WHL's Top Goaltenders as well as being named to the Eastern Conference First All-Star Team. Flodell, 21, was acquired from the Swift Current Broncos prior to the WHL's Trade Deadline. He appeared in a total of 61 games this season posting a record of 38-18-4-0 with a 3.12 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. He led the entire league with 38 victories and finished first among goaltenders in the Eastern Conference with a .909 save percentage. The only recipient of the Goaltender of the Year in Hurricanes history was in 1990-1991 when Jamie McLennan won the award.

Star 16-year-old Dylan Cozens was named the Eastern Conference winner as Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the WHL Rookie of the Year. Cozens led all first-year players in goals (22) while finishing second in rookie points (53). The former first round selection (19th overall) in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft scored four game-winning goals this season. In 72 career WHL games, regular season and playoffs combined, Cozens has recorded 62 points (26g-29) with 20 penalty minutes. Former Hurricane Wes Walz was named the WHL Rookie of the Year in 1988-1989.

Hurricanes Captain Jordy Bellerive was named to the Eastern Conference Second All-Star Team. Bellerive set career highs in goals (46), assists (46) and points (92) this season. He led all 'Canes skaters with six game-winning goals. The Pittsburgh Penguins prospect was one of 12 players to reach the 40-goal plateau from the Eastern Conference. In 206 career regular season games, the North Vancouver, BC product has totaled 184 points (84g-100a) along with 243 penalty minutes.

All individual WHL Conference Award winners will be eligible for the overall league awards at the 2018 WHL Awards luncheon in Red Deer, AB, on Wednesday May 2, 2018.

The Hurricanes open the 2018 WHL Playoffs on Friday in Game 1 of their best-of-seven first round series against the Red Deer Rebels at the ENMAX Centre while Game 2 will take place on Saturday.
