Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

JUNE 3, 2006, 7:05 p.m. : OMAHA ROYALS (23-32) @ Round Rock Express (30-23)

HOME: 16-15 (35-37 in '05) AWAY: 7-17 (37-35 in '05) vs. Round Rock: 1-6 (10-6 in '05)

TONIGHT: The Royals open a 4-game series vs. the Round Rock Express with a 7:05 p.m. game at The Dell Diamond. Omaha is coming off a 5-4 homestand, winning 4 of the past 5 games. Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: Runelvys Hernandez was magnificent in his 1st start since being sent back down by KC, taking a shutout into the 7th inning. Hernandez (2-2) wound up allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 8.0 innings to get the win in Omaha's 5-1 victory over New Orleans. Paul Phillips knocked in 4 runs, slamming a 2-run homer as the Royals drew first blood in the 2nd inning. He also delivered a 2-run single with 2 outs in the 8th to account for the final score. Nelson Figueroa (2-1) took the loss, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits in 6.2 innings.

ROYALS REPORT: The 4 hits that Hernandez and Luke Hudson limited New Orleans to last night equaled the season low for an opposing club. Hernandez also matched the longest outing for an Omaha pitcher this season. Hudson extended his scoreless streak to 10.2 innings over his last 5 appearances. *** Mark Teahen has left the team and is expected to officially rejoin the KC roster prior to the Royals game tonight at Seattle. In 24 games since being optioned to Omaha, Teahen hit .380 with 8 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs and 14 RBI. After going 2-for-23 in his 1st 7 games at Triple-A, Teahen was 28-for-his-last-56 (.500). He also banged out 2 triples and 2 homers over the past 5 contests. *** Another move to Omaha's roster today: starter Neal Musser was sent to Double-A Wichita. The lefty was 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 2 starts for Omaha, after starting the year with Tucson, where he was 1-3 with a 5.45 ERA in 8 games. *** Ruben Gotay has hit in 11 of the last 12 games, at a torrid .396 (19-48) clip (2 HR, 6 RBI). *** Phillips has hit in 3 straight games, going 5-for-12 (.417) with a triple, homer and 5 RBI. His 4 RBI last night were 1 shy of the season high for a Royal, set by Chad Allen in a 10-1 rout of Round Rock on April 27. Speaking of Allen, he has missed the past 9 games with a tight hamstring. But, he could return to the lineup - with a 10-game hit streak (.463, 19-41) - during this series. *** Mike Aviles has 1 hit in each of the past 5 tilts, driving in 3 runs. *** Bobby Keppel made his 1st Major League start last night for KC - facing Jamie Moyer in his 497th career start. Keppel took a 2-hit shutout into the 7th, before allowing back-to-back homers. Keppel took the loss in a 4-0 defeat as Moyer tossed a 2-hitter. However, he gave KC its 1st quality start (2 R in 6.2 IP) in 12 games.

STARTERS: RH Brian Boehringer (0-0, 1.35) vs. RH Jason Hirsh (4-2, 3.17)

Boehringer, whose contract was purchased by KC last weekend from the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League, makes his 2nd start for Omaha. In his debut last Sunday, he took a no-decision in the Royals 6-3 loss vs. Memphis, after being relieved in the 7th inning of a 1-1 tie (6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HR). The 36-year old right-hander made 5 starts for Bridgeport, going 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA. In 30.2 innings, he allowed 25 hits, walking 12 and striking out 24. He gave up just 2 homers and held opposing batters to a .231 average. In 2005 Boehringer made 9 appearances between 3 New York Yankees minor league clubs. He made 3 starts between the Gulf Coast League Yankees and class-A Tampa, before making 6 relief appearances for Triple-A Columbus. He was 0-1 with a 21.32 ERA for the Clippers, allowing 15 earned runs in 6.1 innings. Boehringer has pitched in 356 games in the Major Leagues with the Yankees, Padres, Giants and most recently the Pirates (2002-2004). In his big league career, he is 26-32 with a 4.36 ERA. Boehringer was originally selected by the White Sox in the 4th round of the 1991 draft out of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES:

Sun., 7:05: RH Ryan Baerlocher (2-2, 3.38) vs. RH Chris Baker (5-1, 1.80)

Mon., 7:05: TBA vs. RH Jared Gothreaux (2-3, 4.59)

Tue., 7:05: RH Kyle Snyder (0-4, 3.88) vs. RH Ezequiel Astacio (1-1, 3.74)
