New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The visiting New Orleans Zephyrs offense erupted with four runs in the sixth inning and held on to defeat the Memphis Redbirds 4-3 on Saturday night. Memphis catcher Brian Esposito drilled a two run home run in the fourth inning to give the Redbirds the early 2-0 lead. Memphis added to the lead in the fifth inning when Junior Spivey scored on a Shaun Boyd base-hit. Memphis starter Randy Leek silenced the Zephyrs offense allowing just three hits through five innings. New Orleans woke up in the sixth with back to back home runs from the Zephyr speed burners Bernie Castro and Henry Mateo. Kenny Kelly drove in the game -winning run with a two RBI double off the all in left center field wall to silence the capacity crowd of 14,454 at Autozone Park. Starter Billy Traber earned the win and three Zephyr relievers shutting out the Birds in the final four innings. Newly anointed closer Roy Corcoran earned his first save of the season for New Orleans, he had 16 saves at Class AA Harrisburg.

Game Notes: The Zephyrs promoted infielder Brendan Harris to the Nationals on Saturday. Harris, 25, was hitting .333 (51-for-153) with 11 doubles, four home runs and 23 RBIs in 40 games with the Zephyrs at the time of the promotion. Harris' .333 batting average currently ranks second among all current Nationals minor leaguers and is tied for seventh in the Pacific Coast League. His .422 on-base percentage, thanks in large part to 18 walks, currently ranks fifth in the PCL. New Orleans added shortstop Anthony Medrano from extended spring training. RH pitcher Steve Watkins will be activated from the disabled list on Sunday and will make the start. The opening day starter for the Zephyrs has been on the disabled list since April 18th with a strained hamstring
