Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Maybe number seven is lucky after all.
After dropping six of its last seven games, each by a single run, the Express reversed its fortunes Saturday with a 1-0 win over Omaha at The Dell Diamond in front of 9,750 fans.
The win gave Round Rock its seventh win in eight games against the Royals (Kansas City) this year and moved the Express to within a half game of Albuquerque in the Pacific Coast League's American Southern Division.
The Isotopes, who have dropped five straight and 10 of their last 13, fell 8-4 to Nashville earlier Saturday.
Jason Hirsh (5-2) worked five shutout innings for the win, issuing five walks and three hits on four strikeouts before Roberto Giron worked four hitless innings for his second save. Luke Scott and Humberto Quintero both had a pair of hits, and Mike Rodriguez recorded a hit for the 16th time in 18 games.
The Express failed to move a runner past first base until the fourth inning, when Luke Scott roped his eighth double of the year into left field. Royce Huffman followed up with a single off of Royals starter Brian Boehringer (0-1), scoring Scott.
Scott doubled again in the sixth, following Brooks Conrad's single to right field. Reliever Joe Nelson worked out of the inning, getting a strikeout and a double play.
Round Rock and Omaha meet again Sunday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond for the second of four games.
