TODAY: The Royals host Round Rock game 3 of a 4-game series at Rosenblatt Stadium. Gates open at 12:30; the 1st 1,500 fans receive "Casey for Mayor" buttons and kids 17-and-under will be able to vote for Casey, Fahey or Friend. Air-time is 1:15 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: Round Rock banged out 20 hits in a 14-9 win in front of 2,365 fans at Rosenblatt, taking a 2-0 lead in the series. Royals starter Dennis Tankersley (0-1) gave up six runs on eight hits, including three home runs, in 3.0 innings to take the loss. Rock Round led 6-5 going into the 6th, but scored four runs to spoil Justin Huisman's 26th birthday and came back with four more in the 7th off Shawn Sonnier. Mike Coolbaugh, Carlos Rivera and Humberto Quintero homered for Round Rock; Coolbaugh wound up scoring four runs and driving in three. Travis Driskill (1-0) got the win.

ROYALS REPORT: Infielder Rudy Gomez pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of mop-up relief last night. Gomez was the first Omaha non-pitcher to take the mound since catcher Dave Ullery saw action in the second game of a doubleheader vs. Memphis on July 20th of last season. *** Last night saw a couple of feats done by an opposing club and player for the first time since the Royals lost at Salt Lake, 22-10, last August 7th. Round Rock became the first opposing team since that date to rack up 20 hits in a game. And Coolbaugh is the first opponent to score four runs in a game vs. the Royals since Adam Riggs and Shane Halter both hit that mark for the Stingers. *** Matt Diaz extended his hitting streak to seven games last night with a first inning single. Diaz also smacked a two-run double in the Royals' five-run 3rd and singled and scored in the ninth. Diaz is hitting .438 (14-32) during the streak, with two home runs, eight RBI and nine runs scored. *** Royals catcher Paul Phillips owns a five-game streak. Phillips, who went 1-for-15 in his first four games, is 8-for-19 (.421) with six RBI and four runs scored in his last five contests. *** After Luis Ugueto was ejected for arguing in the 8th inning, pinch-hitter Scott Walter came on, inheriting an 0-2 count. On 1-and-2, Walter singled up the middle, making him 2-for-2 in pinch-hit appearances this season. Walter, who added a two-run single in the ninth, has hit in all four games he has played in, going 5-for-11 (.455). *** The Express, which scored only ten runs in losing three of four games to the Royals last week at Round Rock, has scored 21 runs in the first two games of this series and owns a team batting average of .367 (29-for-79).

STARTERS: RH Ezequiel Astacio (0-1, 3.35) vs. LH Jimmy Gobble (1-1, 10.38) Gobble makes his 3rd start of the season. The 23-year old southpaw's last start was Tuesday at Albuquerque, when he took the loss in a 14-7 defeat (3.0 IP, 9 H, 10 R-9 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR). Gobble started at Round Rock on Opening Night, getting the win in a 4-1 victory (5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K). Gobble spent most of 2004 with KC, aside from a one-month stint (July 29-Aug. 29) with Omaha. He went 9-8 with a 5.35 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) for KC. The 9 wins were tied for the team lead (with Darrell May) and Gobble was the only KC pitcher to post a winning record for the season. He was selected as KC's Pitcher of the Month for April, after going 1-0 with a 2.82 ERA in 4 games (3 starts). In 4 starts for Omaha last season, Gobble was 3-1 and had a 4.58 ERA.
