Round Rock Express News Release
A wind-blown Sunday afternoon on the bluffs at Rosenblatt Stadium came down to an ugly, six-run, three-hit, three-error inning on the part of the Express, as they fall for the first time on the road, 10-4 to Omaha.
Round Rock actually took the early lead 1-0 after Trenidad Hubbard singled with one out in the third inning. A hit batter moved Hubbard to second base, he then stole third and scored on Mike Coolbaugh's sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the third, Omaha put up four runs, including a three-run homer by LF Matt Diaz and an RBI single for CF Adrian Brown as Omaha vaulted into a 4-1 lead.
The Express made it a one-run ballgame in the sixth, as C Humberto Quintero walked with one out, a Royce Huffman double moved Quintero to third, and he scored on Todd Self's hot-shot grounder to short. An RBI double off 2B Brooks Conrad's bat plated the second run and Round Rock trailed by a 4-3 margin.
The wheels came off for Round Rock in the bottom of the sixth, however, as reliever Phil Norton made two throwing errors, a balk, and walked four in the inning. All that, along with a throwing error by SS Tommy Whiteman, and when the smoke had cleared, six runs had scored for the Royals, and Omaha led 10-3.
Round Rock picked up another run in the 7th as Trenidad Hubbard walked with one out, he stole second and scored on Mike Coolbaugh's second RBI of the day, a sharp single to right center. That was all the offense the Express could muster, and they fell by a final of 10-4.
The Express and Omaha finish their series at 11:05AM on Monday with lefty Wandy Rodriguez going for Round Rock against Omaha righthander Ryan Jensen.
