Victoria, B.C. - The Victoria Royals will look to get into the win column as they depart the Island for a pair of road tests against the Vancouver Giants and Everett Silvertips this weekend.

It will be the first road trip of the season for the club, who dropped two games against the Spokane Chiefs to start the year last weekend in Victoria.

Despite the two losses, there were some positive outcomes for the team on opening weekend, particularly on the offensive side of the puck.

Seven Victoria forwards recorded multi-point performances over the first two contests and multi-goal games were recorded by forwards Marcus Almquist and Reggie Newman who each scored twice on opening night.

Additionally, forward Anthony Wilson is expected to be back in the lineup after serving a one-game suspension for cross checking against Spokane on opening night.

Vancouver - who Victoria will play on Friday night - has also gotten off to a rough start through their first two games of the season, dropping a close 4-3 contest in a shootout to Seattle before suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Everett last weekend to bring their record to 0-1-0-1 on the year.

Defenceman Madzen Leslie and forward Jaden Lipinski have looked impressive in the two opening games for the Giants, each recording a goal and an assist. They will be leaned on to continue that production in the absence of team captain Zach Ostapchuk, who remains out of the lineup with an injury suffered at Ottawa Senators camp earlier this month.

Vancouver's back end is set to receive a boost as they welcome back 20-year-old goaltender Jesper Vikman after he was reassigned by the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.

Following Friday night's battle against the Giants, the Royals will head south of the border to take on the Everett Silvertips (1-0-0-0) in the hostile environment of Angel of the Winds Arena.

Last year's regular season champions picked up where they left off last spring with a 4-1 win in their opening game against Vancouver last weekend. It was a total team effort for the 'Tips, who counted goals by four different players in the victory.

Goaltender Brayden Holt also looked to be in top form, allowing just a single goal on 20 shots faced in the opener against Vancouver.

While defeating the 'Tips will be no easy task for the Royals, the challenge will be made a little easier as defending WHL Top Defenceman Award winner Olen Zellweger is not expected to play this weekend, having not yet been released from Anaheim Ducks camp.

However, the team will welcome back forward Ben Hemmerling who was reassigned from Vegas camp on Wednesday.

The Royals first game of the weekend against the Giants is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, BC.

The team will then cross the border to face the Silvertips on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, where puck-drop is set for 4:05 pm.
