Royals Edged by Hurricanes in Shootout

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, in a battle between two of the top teams in their respective conferences on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes' Tyler Wong netted a goal and the shootout winner in the first contest of the season to go beyond overtime for both clubs. Victoria's Dante Hannoun scored his second of the night with 38 seconds left in the second period to send the teams tied 3-3 into the final frame. The Royals' Vladimir Bobylev tallied the other marker for Victoria. Lethbridge's remaining goals were notched by Brayden Burke and Ryley Lindgren.

Victoria goaltender Coleman Vollrath stopped 22 of the 25 shots directed his way. Hurricanes' netminder and former Royal Jayden Sittler turned away 15 of the 18 shots he faced through 40 minutes. Sittler was replaced by Stuart Skinner for the remainder of the game, and he stopped all 18 shots fired at him through the third period and overtime. He also stopped both attempts he faced in the shootout.

The Royals went 0/3=0.0% on the powerplay, while Lethbridge went 2/3=66.7% on the night.

Victoria heads back out on the road for a six-game swing starting in Prince Albert, SK to battle the Raiders on Friday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
