Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA – It was a night of firsts for the Royals. Reading received goals from forwards Nick Greenough (1g) and Jamie O'Leary (1g), as well as defenseman Adam Borzecki (1g) – all tallying for the first time this season – plus center Eric Fortier (1g, 1a), as the Royals defeated the Boardwalk Bullies for the first time in three tries, 4-1.

The Royals (20-10-2) netted the only two goals through 20 minutes, as they scored the first goal of the game for the first time since January 4 at Pensacola, the final game of their season-high, eight-game road trip. Greenough opened the scoring with his first marker in a Reading sweater at the 7:30 mark. Veteran forward Larry Courville (2a) drew the only assist.

Borzecki capped the stanza's scoring with a power play goal from the point. The Gdansk, Poland native ripped a shot from the offensive blue line that found its way through traffic and past Atlantic City goaltender Jake Moreland (29 saves). Center Graig Mischler (2a) picked up his team-leading 19th assist of the season, while Fortier also added a helper on the eventual game-winner.

Reading would extend its lead to three goals 8:21 into the second period, as O'Leary, who was signed to a contract just hours before faceoff, buried a wrist shot over the shoulder of Moreland. Courville sent him a nifty feed on a two-on-one break that the previously retired O'Leary fired into the top shelf. Defenseman Reagan Rome (1a) also registered a point on the play.

The North Division leaders (20-9-5) tallied their only goal of the contest on a fluke play at the 11:13 mark of the second period. Center Derek Edwardson broke in alone on Reading goaltender Barry Brust (27 saves) and hit the left post on his shot attempt. The puck caromed off the iron before ricocheting off Borzecki and into the net. Edwardson's 15th goal of the season was unassisted.

After 40 minutes of play, the Royals headed to the dressing room with a 3-1 lead, despite being outshot 21-20.

Fortier completed his third multi-point game of the year, icing the match with an empty-net goal at 19:16 of the third period. Mischler picked up the lone assist to seal head coach Derek Clancey's 200th ECHL victory. With the win, the Royals improved to 6-1-1 in January and 8-4-1 at the Sovereign Center.

Reading's next game is on Saturday, January 15th, as it visits Atlantic City to conclude its home-and-home series with the Boardwalk Bullies. Faceoff is at 7:00 pm with the Classic Café pre-game show getting underway approximately 30 minutes before the puck drops. Listen live on the Royals' web site; www.royalshockey.com, or locally on ESPN Radio 1240.
