Royals Comeback over Oil Kings

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals rallied in the third period to beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3, and were paced by Matthew Phillips who recorded his first career WHL hat-trick on Wednesday night.

The Royals' Phillips registered two of his three markers in the third period to help the club overcome a 3-2 Oil Kings' lead. Dante Hannoun would score to tie the game in the final frame, while Logan Fisher closed out the scoring. Regan Nagy tallied in the opening period to give the Royals their first lead of the night after Phillips notched his first of the evening. Edmonton received goals from Lane Bauer, Dysin Mayo, and Kobe Mohr.

On Victoria's fifth goal of the night, blueliner Joe Hicketts tied former Chilliwack Bruin Brandon Manning for most points by a defenceman in franchise history with 136 (25g-111a).

Royals' netminder Coleman Vollrath stopped 23 of the 26 shots directed his way, while Oil Kings' goalie Patrick Dea turned away 22 of the 28 shots he faced.

Victoria went 1/6=16.7% with the man-advantage. Edmonton would go 2/6=33.3% on the powerplay.

The Royals will now head on the road for a two game trip with stops in Vancouver on Friday to face the Giants and Kennewick, WA on Saturday to take on the Tri-City Americans. Friday's contest is at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
