Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

EDMONTON, ALTA. - It all came apart for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the third period Wednesday night.

Edmonton (8-12-3-0) allowed four goals in the final frame, squandering a 3-2 lead to fall 6-3 to the Victoria Royals (15-7-0-1) in Victoria.

Matthew Phillips had a hat trick for the Royals, including the eventual winner in the third period as they took control of the last 20 minutes, outshooting Edmonton 13-6 in the period and scoring four times.

Edmonton opened the scoring 6:49 into the first period as Brett Pollock found Lane Bauer for a one-timer to put the Oil Kings on the board, but Phillips and Regan Nagy both tallied for Victoria to give them a lead heading into the first intermission.

The Oil Kings found their way in the second period, however, as Dysin Mayo - playing his 200th career game in his hometown - scored his first of the season 1:59 in on a power play and Kobe Mohr added another with the man advantage less than two minutes later to give Edmonton a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

In the third it was all Royals, however, as Dante Hannoun tied it 5:45 into the period and Phillips put them ahead for good with a power-play marker less than four minutes later. Phillips would score again later in the frame, while Logan Fisher rounded out the scoring for Victoria.

Patrick Dea made 22 saves for the Oil Kings, while Coleman Vollrath stopped 23 shots for the home side. Edmonton was 2-6 with the man advantage, while Victoria finished 1-6.

The Oil Kings continue their B.C. road trip Friday as they stop off in the Okanagan to take on the Kelowna Rockets.
