OMAHA, NE - Even in tough economic times, the Omaha Royals have shown a significant increase in paid attendance figures in 2009 compared to last season.
Through Tuesday night's game, the Royals paid attendance is 40,485 over eight home dates. Through the first eight home dates of 2008, the Royals had drawn 24,242 fans. This year's attendance represents an increase of 16,243 fans (67%) over the same period in 2008.
The Royals are averaging 5,061 fans per game in 2009, ranking ninth in the 16-team Pacific Coast League. That compares to an average of 3,030 per game through the same period a year ago.
"We are very pleased with how metro-area fans have supported the O-Royals early this season, despite some unfavorable weather conditions," said Royals Vice President/General Manager Martie Cordaro. "We have worked very hard to create a product that people will value and the early numbers are proof of that. From $1 tickets to Kids Eat Free Wednesdays, we hope new fans will take advantage of the great value that our team provides."
The Royals offer many promotions designed to save fans money. New this season, the first 50 kids at every home game receive General Admission tickets for just $1, courtesy of Centris Federal Credit Union. Monday nights features $1 hot dogs, courtesy of Rotella's Italian Bakery. 2-Buck 2uesdays feature $2 General Admission tickets for all fans, presented by Valpak. On Wednesday nights, the first 100 kids 12-and-under receive a free Subway pizza and all kids after the first 100 get a voucher for a free hot dog and Coke.
For a $10 membership fee, Subway Kids Club members receive tickets to all Wednesday and Sunday games and passes to the Coca-Cola Fun Zone at those contests. They also receive a T-shirt, Royals pennant, birthday card, a Kids Club newsletter and a discount at the Royal Treasures Gift Shop at Rosenblatt.
The Royals and Centerplate also kept concessions prices frozen at last year's level. The daily ticket price for both Field Box ($10) and Reserved seats ($8) remain steady for a sixth consecutive season in 2009. Also, the team continues to give a $1 discount on Field Box and Reserved seats to seniors 60-and-over, kids 12-and-under and all military personnel with ID. This year, the club extended that $1 discount to General Admission tickets - normally $7 - for seniors, children (after the first 50 kids each game), and the military.
For tickets, call the Royals ticket office at (402) 738-5100, or order and print tickets online at www.oroyals.com and at www.Etix.com.
