Portland Beavers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Kyle Blanks hit his sixth home run, Eliezer Alfonzo belted a go-ahead shot in the fifth and the Portland Beavers beat the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 4-2 Tuesday night at PGE Park.
The Beavers (13-12) took the lead in the fifth, getting a line-drive solo homer to left from Alfonzo and an RBI groundout by Drew Macias to go up 4-2.
Blanks was 3-for-4 and Alfonzo collected two hits and a walk for the Beavers, who improved to 7-2 at PGE Park this season.
A bases-loaded, two-run single by Dan Ortmeier gave the Sky Sox (14-9) the lead in the top of the first. But Blanks led off the bottom of the second with his sixth home run and Emil Brown scored from third on Peter Ciofrone's sac fly to deep left to tie the game.
Walter Silva gave up two runs, two hits and two walks while striking out one in a major league rehab start for the Beavers. Silva, who has been on the San Diego Padres' disabled list since April 19 (retroactive to April 14) with a strained right forearm, did not factor in the decision in his first rehab start.
Gabe DeHoyos (1-1) turned in 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the win, his first at the Triple-A level. Greg Burke notched his sixth save by retiring all six batters he faced over the final two innings.
Colorado Springs starter Josh Fogg (2-1) allowed four runs, six hits and three walks over six innings to take the loss.
The Beavers and Sky Sox play a doubleheader Wednesday at PGE Park. First pitch is 5:05 p.m.
NOTES: The Beavers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth ... the Sky Sox left nine men on base in the game ... Colorado Springs reliever Jarrett Grube struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh.
